If you are looking to return your tooth surface to its original look, you should consider getting a dental crown. We believe it is important to protect your teeth, and a crown does just that.
Our dentists suggest porcelain crowns for patients because of their durability and natural look. Often, we use crowns for the following reasons:
In any of the above instances, we follow a procedure that allows us to get a better understanding of your situation and helps you get comfortable in our office. Typically, getting a crown requires two appointments.
In your first visit, we take molds (impressions) of your teeth that we use to create a customized crown. Our goal is to ensure that your crown fits naturally and doesn’t cause any irritation or odd feels. An accurate mold helps us create that.
After we take a mold, we clean and prepare your tooth by removing an excessive enamel or decay so that your tooth is prepared well for the crown.
While we create your permanent crown, we create a temporary crown that stays on your tooth for approximately two weeks.
When you come in for your second visit, we remove the temporary crown, clean the area on and around your tooth, then carefully place your new crown. During this process, we test that spacing is accurate and biting is comfortable.
Following this, we go over careful instructions on how to maintain proper care of the crown.
